Idamattam Kannan is a highly respected and accomplished traditional percussion artist with over 20 years of excellence in the musical field. Hailing from Kottayam, he is a dynamic and passionate performer with more than 18 years of experience in temple music, specializing in Chenda and Thimila.
A prominent figure in Kerala’s traditional music scene, he has performed Chenda Melam and Panchavadyam alongside legendary artists like Mattam Shankaran Kutty Marar, showcasing his mastery and dedication to the art form.
Kannan is a recipient of the prestigious Kerala State Cultural Ministry’s Young Artist Fellowship for Chenda Melam. His contributions to traditional percussion have earned him 15+ awards and recognitions, reflecting his commitment to preserving and promoting this rich cultural heritage.
He has conducted and performed in over 3000 programs, and has trained 175+ students in temple percussion, mentoring the next generation of artists with passion and discipline.
